China (Hong Kong, Shanghai & Beijing) Digital Work.

During my 2017 trip to Hong Kong and mainland China I knew I wanted to focus on creating two separate bodies of work. Taking with me both digital and medium format film cameras I proceeded to document my first experiences of these cities and countries.

The purpose of my digital camera project was to capture the fast, dynamic scenes of city streets -- Not being held back by film rolls or my large range-finder Fuji I was able to capture people and scenes in a much more carefree way. Often opting to take more “people” based images and keeping my landscape scenes to my medium format.

No matter what camera or format I am using, my aims as a photographer are often to explore the relationships of people and their contextual “landscape”. I love documenting the way in which, we as people, take up space, either with our bodies or the physical structures we have created. I have found the visual conflict between us and our surrounding space incredibly satisfying to document.
