Pingyao International Photography Festival 2018

Curated by Manchester School of Art lecturer Sian Bonnel

About The Festival

In September 2018 I was invited to the ancient city of Pingyao in the Shanxi Province of China to help set up and curate the Beyond The Camera Exhibition. Which is part of the annual Pingyao International Photography Festival. The exhibition, which was placed in the one of the largest spaces of the festival, is an overview of the work made by recent graduates of some of the UK's best art schools. As well as being invited to help set up and be an ambassador for the curator, I was also exhibiting a collection of work from my previous trip to China in 2017.

The festival itself attracts 100,000's of visitors every year. The 2018 addition included the 'Distinctly Britain' exhibition which featured work by Martin Par, Tish Murtha, Chris Killip, Daniel Meadows, John Myers, Markéta Luskačová and many more. It later travelled to Liverpool's Open Eye Gallery as a part of 2019's Look Festival.
